Surface Mounted Aluminium LED Profiles
Surface mounted profiles are the straightforward option. They fix directly onto the surface without any routing or cutting into plasterboard, which makes them the first choice for kitchen cabinets, shelving units, under-stair lighting, and furniture. Most come with a frosted diffuser cover that spreads the light evenly and keeps the LED strip itself out of sight.
Standard profiles are 2 metres long and available in 7mm and 15mm deep options. The shallower 7mm profiles suit low-profile strips; the 15mm versions handle higher-density tape with a deeper channel for better heat dissipation. Browse our full range of LED strip light kits if you need strip and profile together in one order.
Recessed Aluminium LED Profiles
Recessed profiles fit into a routed channel in timber, MDF, or plasterboard and sit flush with the surface once installed. The strip is completely hidden, with only the diffused light visible. They're the right choice for staircases, alcoves, wardrobe interiors, and any application where you want clean, linear lighting with no visible hardware.
You'll need to route a channel to the correct depth before fitting. Most of our recessed profiles are 7mm or 15mm deep, so check the profile dimensions against your material thickness before you order. You'll also need a compatible LED driver to power the strip. We stock a full range of constant voltage drivers suitable for 12V and 24V tape.
Corner & Bendable LED Profiles
Corner profiles mount at a 45-degree angle in internal corners, giving you an angled light spread that works well for kitchen worktop lighting, display shelving, and display lighting where you want light to fall diagonally across a surface rather than straight down. They come in both silver and black and take standard LED tape widths.
Bendable profiles are a different category. They flex around curved surfaces, so you can light arches, radius worktops, curved walls, or any installation where a rigid extrusion won't follow the shape. Pair them with LED controllers if you want dimming or colour temperature control built into the installation.
Plaster-In LED Profiles
Plaster-in profiles are set into walls or ceilings before plastering, then skimmed over so the profile sits completely flush with the finished surface. There's no visible housing at all. Just a clean linear aperture in the plaster with light coming through it. The result is a level above what any surface-mounted profile can achieve.
They need to go in before the plasterer arrives, so they require proper planning at first fix stage. Most of our plaster-in profiles have a trimless version available too, which means no visible edge when the skim coat goes on. These are popular with kitchen designers, bathroom fitters, and anyone doing a high-spec residential project.
Aluminium LED Channel & Extrusion
LED channel, LED extrusion, and aluminium LED profile all refer to the same thing. Different people in the trade use different terms, but the product is identical: an aluminium housing that holds an LED strip, protects it from dust and physical damage, and gives the installation a clean, professional finish.
If you've been searching for aluminium LED extrusions or LED strip channels and landed here, you're in the right place. All 49 profiles in this collection work as LED channels. They all accept standard 8mm and 10mm LED tape widths, and most also accept COB tape. Pick up your LED tape at the same time and we'll ship everything together from our UK warehouse. For installations where you also need under cabinet lighting fittings, we stock a full range alongside the profiles.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an aluminium LED profile?
An aluminium LED profile (also called an LED extrusion or LED channel) is a housing that holds and protects LED strip lights. It shields the strip from dust and minor knocks while giving the finished installation a clean, linear look. Most profiles come with a frosted or clear diffuser cover to spread the light evenly.
Can you bend aluminium LED profiles?
Standard aluminium profiles are rigid and can't be bent. If you need to light a curved surface, choose a purpose-made bendable aluminium LED profile instead. These flex without cracking or kinking, and they're available in the same range of finishes as our standard profiles.
How do you cut aluminium LED profiles?
Use a fine-toothed saw or mitre saw. Mark your measurement clearly, clamp the profile securely, and cut steadily without forcing the blade. Always wear safety goggles and clear away any aluminium shavings before fitting the strip. Most standard profiles can be cut to length on site without specialist tools.
