LED Dimmers
LED dimmers can make your LED lights even more energy-efficient since you can set the brightness level that you need. I think we can probably all agree that we don't require intense illumination all of the time. For those instances when we don't need 100% brightness, it's best to keep the lights low so that you won't be wasting any of your money!
Aside from energy efficiency, an LED dimmer is perfect for customising the atmosphere of your home. Every time you want to have a relaxing soak in the tub, you can dim your lights for a cosy ambience. On the other hand, whenever you're doing daily chores or monthly decluttering, you can brighten up your lights so you have full illumination and a clear view of what you're doing.
Can you use a dimmer switch on LED lights?
You can absolutely use a dimmer switch with an LED light. Just make sure that your LED light fixture is dimmable, the bulb you're using with the fixture (if it has built-in bulbs, disregard this) is dimmable, and your LED driver (if there is) is dimmable. If one of those is not dimmable, you might encounter some glitches while using your dimmer switch. Also, there are instances where the dimmer switch is not compatible with the LED light, resulting in your lights not turning on/off or dimming/brightening.
So, before you set up your dimming system, ensure that everything is dimmable and every device is compatible with each other. It will lessen your stress since you don't have to start searching for the "where-it-went-wrong" part!
Do I need a special dimmer for LED lights?
Aside from making sure that you have a LED compatible dimmer, you don't need to get a dimmer with any other unique feature. A standard LED dimmer will already enable you to dim/brighten your lights. However, if you're looking for a more advanced controller to manage your lights, you can incorporate our LED controllers to give you a more convenient way of operating them.
With these types of controllers, you'll be able to switch on/off, dim/brighten, change colour (if possible), and other functions that are unique to your lights and the controllers that you'll be using. Also, you can try our Smart home accessories, so you can just command Alexa or Google Home to how you want your lights to look and feel. Convenient, isn't it?
How to tell if a dimmer is LED compatible?
Dimming an incandescent or fluorescent bulb is easy since any dimmer switch is compatible with them. However, it's a different story with LEDs. Because LED lights have a low voltage, you can't just match them with any dimmers.
So, what is the best way to check if your LED bulb and LED dimmer is compatible? Read through the technical specification of the products because everything should be listed there. If you're not sure what type of LED dimmer to pair with your LED bulb, then give us a call or email our team. We would be delighted to assist you in any way possible so you can create the best lighting system for your home!
