Bathroom Lights
Bathroom lights need to do more than look good. They need the right IP rating for the zone they're going into, and they need to be LED if you want something that runs efficiently and lasts. Here you'll find IP44 and IP65 rated fittings for every part of the bathroom, from recessed ceiling downlights and flush ceiling lights to wall fittings and LED bathroom mirrors.
All the products in this collection are suited to UK bathroom installations. If you're not sure which IP rating you need for your zone, the guide below explains it clearly.

Bathroom Ceiling Lights
Recessed downlights are the most popular choice for bathroom ceilings. They sit flush with the ceiling, they're easy to keep clean, and they give even coverage across the room. For use directly above a bath or shower enclosure (Zone 1), you'll need a minimum IP65 rating (protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction). Our bathroom downlights include both IP44 and IP65 options in a range of finishes including white, brushed chrome, chrome and matt black.
Flush ceiling lights and round LED panels are also worth considering if you want something with a cleaner, wider spread of light. These suit bathrooms where a single central fitting works better than multiple downlights. Colour temperatures from warm white (3000K) to natural white (4000K) are available across the ceiling light range.
Bathroom Wall Lights
Wall lights are useful for adding a secondary layer of light, particularly around mirrors and vanity areas. For Zone 2 use (within 600mm horizontally from the edge of a bath or shower), a minimum IP44 rating (protected against solid objects over 1mm and water splashing from any direction) is required. Outside all bathroom zones, you have more flexibility, but IP44 is still the sensible choice in any wet room environment.
IP44 rated GU10 wall fittings in stainless steel are a practical option for bathroom walls. They take standard GU10 LED bulbs, so you can dial in the brightness and colour temperature you need. Browse our GU10 LED bulbs to pair with any GU10 fitting.
LED Bathroom Mirrors
An LED bathroom mirror gives you good task lighting right where you need it. Most models include a demister pad, which stops the mirror fogging after a shower. Our LED bathroom mirrors come in round and rectangular formats, with options including Bluetooth speakers, colour adjustable lighting (switchable between warm white at 3000K and cool white at 6000K), and brushed chrome, black and gold finishes. These are a straightforward upgrade if you're refitting a bathroom.
IP Ratings for Bathroom Lights Explained
UK bathroom lighting is governed by BS 7671 wiring regulations, which divide the bathroom into zones. Zone 0 is inside the bath or shower itself and requires IP67 or above. Zone 1 is directly above the bath or shower up to a height of 2.25 metres and requires a minimum of IP65. Zone 2 covers the area within 600mm horizontally from Zone 1 and requires IP44 as a minimum. Outside these zones, standard IP20 fittings can technically be used, but IP44 is recommended throughout any bathroom as a precaution against moisture and steam.

Can You Have a Pendant Light in a Bathroom?
Yes, but only in the right location. Pendant lights cannot be used in Zone 0 or Zone 1. In Zone 2, a pendant with at least IP44 rating is required. Outside all zones, a standard pendant can be used, though IP44 is still the recommended minimum for any bathroom. If you're planning a pendant over a freestanding bath, check the exact zone classification before you buy. Our pendant lights are available in a range of styles if you're looking at a bathroom application outside the restricted zones.

Why Use LED Bathroom Lights
LED fittings use significantly less energy than older halogen equivalents and they last much longer. A typical LED bathroom downlight running at 6 to 8 watts will produce comparable output to a 50 watt halogen, and with a rated lifespan of around 25,000 to 50,000 hours, you're unlikely to be changing bulbs frequently. In a bathroom, that matters because access to ceiling fittings is often awkward. LED bulbs also generate far less heat, which reduces any moisture-related issues in enclosed spaces.
Many of our bathroom fittings are also fire rated, which is worth noting if you're installing into a ceiling that forms a floor above. Browse our fire rated downlights if that applies to your project. For further reading on bathroom lighting planning, take a look at our guide to bathroom lighting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What IP rating do I need for bathroom lights?
Zone 0 (inside the bath or shower enclosure) requires IP67 or above. Zone 1 (directly above the bath or shower up to 2.25 metres) requires a minimum of IP65. Zone 2 (within 600mm horizontally from the bath or shower edge) requires IP44 as a minimum. Outside all zones, IP44 is still recommended given the moisture and steam present in any bathroom.
Can you have a pendant light in a bathroom?
Yes, but only outside Zone 0 and Zone 1. In Zone 2, a pendant must carry a minimum IP44 rating. Outside all bathroom zones, a standard pendant is permitted, though IP44 or above is always the safer choice. Always check the zone classification of your specific installation point before fitting.
Are LED lights suitable for bathrooms?
Yes. LED bathroom lights are available in IP44 and IP65 rated versions that cover all bathroom zones. They use less energy than halogen equivalents, typically 6 to 8 watts versus 50 watts, and have a much longer lifespan. They also generate less heat, which is an advantage in enclosed, humid spaces.
What colour temperature is best for bathroom lighting?
Warm white (3000K) works well for a relaxed atmosphere, while natural white (4000K) is popular for task lighting around mirrors and vanity areas where accurate colour rendering matters. Cool white (6000K) is less common in bathrooms but suits very contemporary or clinical-style spaces. Many of our fittings offer colour-switchable options so you're not locked in to one choice at the point of purchase.
Do bathroom downlights need to be fire rated?
If the ceiling forms a floor above, such as in a mid-floor bathroom, fire rated downlights are required to maintain the fire integrity of the ceiling structure. If the bathroom is on the top floor with a loft above, fire rating is not a regulatory requirement, though many installers fit them as standard practice. Check with your electrician if you're unsure. Our fire rated downlights include IP65 versions suitable for bathroom use.
