LED Bathroom Mirror Features Worth Knowing About
Not all LED bathroom mirrors are the same. The basics give you integrated LEDs around the frame or behind the panel for even, shadow-free light. Step up from there and you get genuinely useful extras. A demister pad keeps the mirror clear after a shower, so you're not waiting around wiping condensation. Touch sensor controls mean you're not reaching for a wet switch. A shaver socket adds a compliant EU/UK outlet directly at the mirror.
Bluetooth speakers are popular on modern bathroom refits. They're built into the mirror body, so there's no separate unit to install and no speaker cable to run. Our LED bathroom mirror with Bluetooth speaker is a good example of how much you can pack into one fitting.
Illuminated and Backlit LED Bathroom Mirrors
Illuminated mirrors have LEDs built into the frame, casting light outward from the edges. Backlit mirrors sit the LED panel behind the mirror glass, creating a softer halo effect around the perimeter. Both work well for task lighting, though backlit tends to look cleaner on a plain wall. Colour temperature on our mirrors is typically adjustable between warm white (3000K) and cool white (6000K), so you can dial it in for the mood or the task.
Our colour adjustable LED bathroom mirror with demister pad lets you switch between colour temperatures with a touch, which is useful if the mirror does double duty for skincare and general grooming. The colour adjustable round LED bathroom mirror offers the same flexibility in a circular format.
Round, Rectangular and Square LED Bathroom Mirrors
Rectangular mirrors are the standard choice for above a vanity unit or basin. They suit most bathroom layouts and come in a range of widths. Round LED mirrors have grown in popularity for ensuites and cloakrooms where you want something a bit different. Square formats sit between the two and work well in more contemporary or minimal schemes.
Shape aside, size matters more than people think. A mirror that's too small for the space looks awkward and under-lights the area. For a standard single basin, 600mm wide is a sensible starting point. For a double basin or a larger wall, you'll want to go bigger. Check the product dimensions on each listing before ordering.
IP Ratings for Bathroom LED Mirrors
Bathroom zones are defined under BS 7671. Zone 1 covers the area directly above a bath or shower tray up to 2.25 metres high. Zone 2 extends 0.6 metres beyond the edge of a bath or shower. For Zone 2, you need a minimum IP44 rating (protected against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction). Most of our LED bathroom mirrors carry at least IP44, making them suitable for safe installation in a typical bathroom position above a basin.
For more on bathroom IP ratings, our article on IP ratings for bathroom lights covers the zones in plain terms. You can also browse our full bathroom lights range if you're fitting out the whole room.
Do LED Bathroom Mirrors Need an Electrician?
Yes, if they're hardwired to the mains. Part P of the Building Regulations requires that mains electrical work in a bathroom is carried out by a qualified electrician. That includes connecting a hardwired LED mirror. Battery-operated models are the exception, as they don't involve mains wiring and can be fitted without a certified installer. Most of the mirrors in this collection are mains-wired, so factor installation into your budget if you're a homeowner doing a self-managed refit.
If you're an electrician or contractor, our bathroom downlights are also worth a look for completing the lighting spec on a full bathroom job.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do LED bathroom mirrors need an electrician to install?
Yes, for mains-hardwired models. Part P of the Building Regulations requires a qualified electrician to carry out mains electrical work in a bathroom. Battery-powered LED bathroom mirrors are the exception and can be fitted without a certified electrician.
What IP rating should a bathroom LED mirror have?
For Zone 2 use, which covers most above-basin positions, a minimum of IP44 (protected against solid particles over 1mm and water splashes from any direction) is required. For Zone 1 use directly above a bath or shower, you need IP65 or higher. Always check the product specification before installing.
Can I get an LED bathroom mirror with a shaver socket?
Yes. Several mirrors in our range include an integrated shaver socket with EU and UK adaptor, compliant with BS EN 61558-2-5. Check the individual product listing for confirmation, as not every model includes this feature.
What is the difference between an illuminated and a backlit bathroom mirror?
An illuminated mirror has LEDs built into or around the frame, projecting light outward from the edges. A backlit mirror has LEDs mounted behind the glass, creating a softer glow around the perimeter. Both are effective for task lighting. Backlit styles tend to give a cleaner look on a plain wall.
Are LED bathroom mirrors available with adjustable colour temperature?
Yes. Some of our mirrors let you switch between warm white (3000K) and cool white (6000K) using a touch sensor. This is useful if you want warmer light in the evening and a brighter, cooler tone for tasks like applying make-up or shaving in the morning.
