Power a large group of furniture lights

This 100w driver gives 24V DC to a group of plug-and-play furniture lights. It has eight plug-in light outputs and a separate sensor port, so you can run cabinet lights, cut-to-size LED strips and lit profiles from the same range on one driver. The low-voltage connectors plug straight in, with no stripping wires or soldering.

Work out the load

Add up the wattage of everything the driver will run and allow one output for each separately powered light or strip piece. For example, five full 2m lit profiles draw 100w and use five outputs. That uses the full rated total; four profiles come to 80w if you want spare capacity. Loading to about 80%, or 80w, leaves spare capacity, but you can use up to the full 100w. Each output is limited to 3A (72w at 24V), and the driver's 100w total still applies. You can't join several outputs together to power one long strip piece.

Add a control

A door, hand-wave, touch or motion control from the same range plugs into the sensor port and switches all the lights on the driver together, leaving the eight light outputs free. If areas need separate control, or the job needs more power or outputs, use more than one driver. A touch dimmer from the range dims the low-voltage lights; the driver itself can't be used with a mains wall dimmer.

Planning the fit

The driver comes with a 1.2m mains lead. Put it in a dry, reachable place and measure the cable routes to each light before fitting cupboards or shelves. It suits a DIY wardrobe, fitted kitchen units or an exhibition display counter; check the load, socket position and cable reach for each job, rather than choosing a driver by the number of lights alone.
